Piano Teacher Developing Musical Ears, Minds & Hearts

Previously trained as a children's Suzuki piano ear training method teacher I recently switched to a fabulous a note reading method for all ages which I discovered through the Piano Adventures® Curriculum.

I now primarily teach from the Piano Adventures® method books and add ear training to my lessons for both children and adults.

My career background is in the field of early childhood education.

As both a teacher and the director of education for a preschool I owned, I developed much of the ECE curriculum used at the school. Additionally, I created the curriculum to teach creative arts, music, and computer programming to school aged children. Within the last five years I've written and published several books and been invited to teach self-publishing workshops.  I am also certified to teach conversational english as a second language.

I love teaching beginning piano because it breaks my heart to hear adults say they hated taking piano lessons when they were a child but wish they had continued anyway.  Giving students a good start, or a better one than they had "way back when" is something that I am very passionate about. I have a no tear at the piano policy and I'm always on the lookout for innovative ways to keep my students excited about playing the piano.  I think my ability to keep my students engaged during their piano lessons comes from my belief that we learn best when we are having fun.  Knowing how children learn through play is the principle I built my career on. That philosophy hasn't changed, even with teaching my adult piano students.

I'm a confident, well organized instructor. I plan and prepare for each lesson carefully because I value my students time, their parent's time and their pocketbook.  I truly want to give my students the most bang for the bucks they pay me to teach a lesson.  It's a two-way street though, and I can only go as fast and as far as students are ready to move forward.

Staying positive, applauding the students efforts, praising their accomplishments and giving constructive positive feedback while remaining open and flexible goes a long way in motivating students.  I welcome an open line of communication with parents and am happy to brainstorm ideas for keeping kids interest in playing the piano high on their daily to do list.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy oil painting and clay sculpting.

Thank you for your interest in finding out a little bit more about me.
